THIS SHIP HAS SUNK

recycled white

I walked into the room and watched the scene unfold;

Little paper people
Little paper towns
Little paper governments

equality, freedom,
rights, revolts.

Little paper cities

zoning rights, sewage systems,
schoolyards, littered streets.

Little paper suburbs

green grass, copycat houses,
broken cars, teenage angst.

Little paper skyscrapers

swedish furniture, stainless steel,
smog-filled sunsets, drunks lying in the gutters

Little paper armies

honor, tanks,
bombs, stripped souls.

Little paper anger

treaties, threats,
arguments, pressure.

Little paper wars

paper cuts, paper bombs,
crumpled paper buildings, paper bodies strewn about.

I collected the white remains and threw them in the trash;

Paper in the trash can
Paper in the recycling can
Paper in the recycling center

Paper recycled
Paper reborn

Paper in the house
Paper in the room
Paper in the hands of a child

Little paper people.
